A New Excel Workbook from Lodestar Consulting Systems

Lodestar is excited to release to the contracting community is simple but powerful new Excel workbook, "Job Takeoff and Pricing Tools" (JTP for short).

JTP is a collection of eight worksheets that helps you assemble and correctly price almost any residential and light commercial job. The worksheets are titled:

• Instructions • Dual Factor Pricing
• Job Takeoff Sheet • AOR Pricing and Costing
• Departmentalizer • RNC Pricing and Costing
• Pricing Factors Input • Retail Price Book

The Instructions sheet contains basic help on how to use the system. An 8-page instruction booklet is also part of the ZIP file you can download from this website. (If you prefer to purchase the CD-ROM, the instruction booklet will be included as printed material.)

The Job Takeoff Sheet is merely a tool for use in the field- a 4-page form to help comfort consultants and sales engineers draw up a bill of material a job will need on the jobsite. Later, the takeoff details can be entered in either the AOR Pricing and Costing sheet, or the RNC Pricing and Costing sheet.

The Departmentalizer is a clever way to break a single-column profit and loss statement into a departmental report for Installation and Service. This is a vital step in order to insure accuracy in job pricing, but most contractors don't do it.

The Pricing Factors Input sheet collects data from you that the workbook needs to generate the prices on the next four sheets.

The Dual Factor Pricing sheet allows you to enter basic job information. It then generates three different prices based on the dual factor methods. Select the one that works best for you on that particular job.

The AOR Pricing and Costing sheet (and its cousin, the RNC Pricing and Costing sheet) are the workhorses of JTP. The AOR sheet (AOR stands for "add-on and replacement") lets you assemble a job of any complexity and properly price it using your choice of three pricing methods. The sheet can then be used after the job is installed to run a quick job costing report to help you spot trouble areas or recognize budget-beating performance. The same is true of the RNC ("residential new construction") sheet.

Finally, the Retail Price Book sheet lets you assemble a 9-page retail price booklet for use by your field people. You have your choice of generating a costs printout, a retail price printout, or an installed price printout, giving you complete control over how your field sales reps handle the tricky issue of job pricing.

In its various predecessors (Fiscal Fitness, You Priced That Job HOW?, and other workshops), thousands of dealers have benefited from the outputs of JTP. Now you can enjoy those same benefits without having to travel to a day-long workshop!
