Lodestar Consulting is committed to making the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) business in America as strong as it can be. To that end, I specialize in two vital areas of HVAC success: distribution management, and contractor development.
I believe that the key to a distributor’s success is a strong team of territory managers (those sales people who actually travel in the field every day, building relationships with contractors). If the territory managers are strong and well-versed in all aspects of their trade (from product knowledge, which is absolutely vital, to business management, which is often a skill that many territory managers lack), they can be strong resources of support and innovation for their clients. And as Stew Docter, a wise old sage in this trade, taught me many years ago, “The contractors create the pool of profits from which all of us drink.”
But it takes two to be number one, and that is where the contractor element enters the picture. Contractors are often outstanding mechanics, able to design incredible comfort systems and repair the most complex machines on the planet. But they often don’t know very much about running a business, so that’s where my slate of contractor courses comes into play. Whether it is helping a contractor understand his financial statements or helping her price a job properly, Lodestar has solutions that can help contractors grow in size and profits and do so with relative safety.
